Will grew up in Auburn, Washington (near Seattle). After graduating from Auburn High School and Green River Community College, he attended Whitworth University and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. After working for three summers at Lutherhaven Ministries in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, he began a year as a “Community Outreach Fellow” for camp. After many long conversations, much prayer, and a great amount of encouragement, he decided to attend Luther Seminary in Saint Paul, Minnesota, beginning in the Summer of 2010. While there he worked at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Saint Anthony Park Lutheran Church in Saint Paul, and spent a year as an intern pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion, South Dakota. He graduated from Luther Seminary in May 2014 with a Master of Divinity degree.
In February he was accepted as the recipient of Luther Seminary’s Graduate Preaching Fellowship, a year-long study abroad opportunity funded by a generous Presbyterian church in California. The only stipulation of the fellowship? The studying must take place outside of the US. So Will put together a long proposal, submitted it, and was accepted by representatives of the faculty as the GPF recipient. Check out a snippet of the proposal on the “Fellowship Proposal” page.
Will married Katie in June of 2014! After a quick honeymoon, the planning resumed. Two more months of hectic preparation ensued before they left for South Africa at the end of August.
